Guess the hidden five-letter word in six tries. A new word every day.

About this game

Daily Word is a word puzzle with one simple goal: find the hidden five-letter word in six guesses or fewer. After each guess, every letter changes colour to tell you how close you are. There is one new word every day, the same for everyone, and once you have solved it you can keep playing with practice words.

How to play

  1. Type a five-letter word with the on-screen keyboard or your own, then press Enter.
  2. Green means the letter is in the word and in the right place.
  3. Orange means the letter is in the word but in a different place.
  4. Dark grey means the letter is not in the word.
  5. Use the clues to find the word in six guesses. Fewer guesses means a higher score.

Tips

  • Start with a word that has common letters and different vowels, such as "stare" or "audio".
  • Use your second guess to test new letters instead of repeating the same ones.
  • Remember that a word can contain the same letter twice. Orange and green clues count each copy separately.
  • Look at the keyboard colours to see which letters you have already ruled out.
  • Think about common endings and letter pairs such as -ER, -ING, TH or CH.

FAQ

When does the daily word change?

Does the game check that my guess is a real word?
